Join CIDA on a camping/diving adventure to Jade Cove and Plaskett Creek to dive for Jade, meet new people and have fun.Would you like the chance to find some Jade, do some beach-combing, have fun and maybe do some diving? Maybe camping at a beautiful quiet campground away from everything is what you’re looking for, if so then this outing is for you.

This will be the 8th annual trip and it’s always a fantastic time. The trip is set for August 11-14, 2011 (Thurs.-Sun.) with camping at Plaskett Creek (National Forest) and diving at nearby Jade Cove. Plaskett Creek is about 1 hour North of San Simeon and is across the highway from Jade Cove and Sand Dollar Beach.

The campground is very nice with lots of shade, grass, flush toilets, and running water. There are NO showers. The nearest services, a general store with gas, food and gifts are about 15 minutes from the campground, but are expensive. You can now reserve campsites in the back ½ of the campground up to 6 months before your planned arrival date (Feb 10 or 11, 2011 for this years trip). Reserve your site ASAP because this campground fills fast. You can reserve online at www.recreation.gov or call 877 444-6777. Ken has  reserved sites #39, 41, 29 & 43. The cost of a site per night is $22.00 and you can have up to 8 people and 3 vehicles on each site (most will only fit 2) with the third vehicle costing $5.00 per day extra. Trailers, tents trailers, campers and small motor homes are allowed. There will be a potluck on Sat. night, bring something to share. There is usually more food then we can eat and it’s always very GOOD.

The coast close to Plaskett Creek is great for beach-combing and diving, if weather permits. For diving, we will be diving Jade Cove, about ¼ mile South of the campsite. The access to the cove from the highway is strenuous for most, but very much worth it. There is a path that leads to a 100ft.cliff with a dirt trail leading down to Jade Cove, where hopefully we will find some nice pieces of Jade. Even beach-combing here can produce some nice pieces of Jade and at any rate it is just a beautiful place to be. There are no air fill locations nearby so you must come prepared if you wish to dive. If you do not want to dive, bringing snorkeling gear could be a great option.

This is always a fun outing whether you dive or not and a great way to make new friends, great for families too. In 2010 there were about 40 people-talk about fun! Some years the diving is good and other years not so good, but either way the Jade finding is always excellent. View some pictures from previous trips.
