Pacific Star Dive Boat

The Pacific Star specializes in multi-day trips to Catalina, San Clemente, Santa Barbara and San Nick islands, but is equally at home doing the southern oil rigs and coastal wrecks. The Pacific Star is a family run business owned and operated by Dave and Sonja Harvey and their sons. They have been running the Pacific Star for a number of years now, always treating their customers like family. Safety is of utmost importance to the well qualified crew of the Pacific Star and having fun diving some new places is right behind that.

The Pacific Star is 65’ X 22’, built in 1977 as a sport fishing boat named The Bold Contender this all aluminum vessel served San Diego and San Pedro for years until she was renamed The Pacific Star and refitted for diving. The Pacific Star was powered by two 8V92 Detroit Diesels and was fed 110\220 volt electricity by one of two 30KW Delco generators. In December 2010 both main engines and both gensets where replaced along with a new complete exterior paint job and a few other upgrades.

Up to 3000 psi tank fills are from one of two T2-11; 17CFM Ingersoll Rand compressor filtered through a four filter system and analyzed Quarterly to ensure Safe Air Standards are met.  Nitrox is partial pressure mixed  to 32%  and is available for those that have an oxygen cleaned tank.

*The Pacific Star also supplies free use of their steel 72′s if needed and they can be filled with nitrox, the only thing you pay for is nitrox fills. There is no charge if you use them and use air only. If you wish to use their tanks you MUST call in advanced to reserve one.

With the bait tank removed, the dive deck is wide open and very easy to move around. There is wrap around bench seating with gear storage making donning and removal of your dive gear quick and easy. With a submerged swim step and large platform, exiting the water is easily done by removing your fins in the water, handing them to the deckhand. Three steps up to a large platform you’ll find two hot freshwater rinse downs.

The galley is large and comfy with a TV, DVD player and surround sound. The meals on the Star start in the morning with a continental breakfast of breads, fruits, cereals, juices, and of course some of Sonja’s home baked goodies. Afterwards there is a hot breakfast of eggs, hot cakes, or just a fresh breakfast burrito. Snacks are through out the day and always there from fruit platters and veggie trays to chips, dips and cookies. If you don’t see it, ask-they just might have it.

Lunch and Dinner are sit down style with the crew serving you. Just relax, enjoy and let them do the work. Meals range from soup and sandwich to roast pork with all the trimmings and if you’re a vegan, no worries, just let them know and they will take care of you.

*All trips include meals, air, juice, water, beer and wine. There is no soda on board.

Just inside the galley are the 2 large (by boat standards) full bathrooms with toilet, sink and full showers. The bunk room (bunk room layout) holds 6 single bunks and 6 double bunks in 5 private staterooms and 8 single bunks and 4 double bunks in a common sleeping area, all with privacy curtains, reading lights and blankets and pillows. There is also a high speed blower providing ventilation throughout the bunkroom. Outside on the upper sun deck is probably the best place to hangout, with the large comfy chairs for between dive naps to the outstanding views-this is the place to be.

As always, the crew on The Pacific Star wishes to make your time with them enjoyable and memorable. From carrying your gear to and from the boat to simply having fun with their new found friends, they hope you will feel the same.

The Pacific Star had been based out of Redondo Beach, King Harbor for many years and in 2010 the Star moved to the 22nd street Landing, San Pedro-directions. At the East end of the lot is two drop off stalls where the crew will be waiting to take your gear to the boat. Drop off your gear with the crew there then parking is right across the street. Life doesn’t get much better!
