Anacapa Island-Nov. 25, 2012

Anacapa is always good for some fun easy diving and this trip wasn’t any different except with only 7 divers on board (CIDA had a 1/2 charter) it was like our own personal dive trip. The weather was nice even if it was overcast and at least it wasn’t that cold out and along with the calm seas it made for a nice day of diving.

We visited 3 sites all on the backside of Anacapa between Coral Reef and Aquarium. Both the 1st & 2nd dives had a little current and the last one was a nice easy one with no current. The 1st dive was cool with a nice steep drop off with the top at about 45′-50′ and what a great place to hang out looking for cool things to photograph! This dive also had lots of large rock structure that made up a large number of nooks and crannies and around the drop off was a large assortment of schooling fish. I also seen a very large lingcod in this area. It was making itself very hard to photograph and if only I had a spear gun it would be a whole different story. There was also ton’s of the ever present brittle stars that cover everything including some fish that didn’t move much.

The last 2 dives were at similar locations with the visibility running about 30′-40′ on all 3 dives and a water temperature in the low 60’s. It was a good day to take it easy and enjoy the nice diving plus with only 7 of us the crew loved us.

The next CIDA Anacapa trip is aboard the Peace on February 2, 2013 and I hope you can join us!
