Oil Rigs/Olympic II wreck-Magician-Oct. 21, 2017
Been a bit busy working and redoing things on the CIDA website-so much so I forgot to post a report from our rig/wreck trip on Oct. 21st trip aboard the Magician.
It was a sold out trip as all have been aboard the Magician. The Magician is working out GREAT for CIDA, always having an excellent crew, always clean and safety is their MAIN concern. Captain Carl has done an excellent job!
We did our first dive on the Olympic getting their good and early which paid off because the Giant Stride had to change their plans as we were already anchored when they arrived. The conditions were good on the Olympic II with visibility about 20′-25′, not much current and quite a few fish around the bow and stern of the wreck. I can never get tired of diving the wreck and could easily sit over it all day checking out different areas on every dive.
We then moved to Eureka for our 2nd dive and then Elly/Ellen for our 3rd dive. Conditions at the rig were nice but a bit more swell going through them along with a little current but nothing to strong. Visibility was about the same as it was at the Olympic and I opted for scallops rather then taking my camera. Got my limit and some extras for Mike the DM and for Dani to cook up for others to try. Scallops are yummy especially on the boat right after a dive-nice and fresh!
It was then time to head back to the dock getting in by 3:00 ish making it a wonderful day. If you have not yet been on the Magician you should give it a try and in 2018 CIDA has about 8 trips scheduled on it. Our next rig trip will be on Jan. 14th.
