2 Day Begg Rock/San Nick-Peace-Nov. 12 & 13, 2016
Begg Rock/San Nick dive report for Channel Islands Dive Adventures. Trip was a 2 day on the Peace on Nov. 12 & 13, 2016 and the weather showed us who is boss.
We had another FUN CIDA trip this past weekend on the Peace even if the weather changed our plans big time! The plan was to go out to Begg Rock & San Nick and as it got closer the swell & wind kept building so after discussing options with Eric we opted to leave at 5:00 am for our first stop at some outer reefs along the backside of Anacapa instead of leaving at midnight. The good side was most everyone got some good sleep but then sleeping on a boat isn’t the same as home.
We had a full boat with a majority of people from the South Orange County Dive Club (SOCDC). It was really great meeting them and getting to know more people from down south. They are a really good bunch so if you are looking for a dive club in the Orange County area go check them out.
It is rare to have a 2 day on the Peace on a Sat/Sun so it seemed a bit odd not having to take off work for the trip which was a good thing but then any day diving is better than being at work. On Sat. our first 3 dives where along the backside of Anacapa and then we moved to the Yellowbanks area for 2 more day dives and 1 night dive. The bugs seemed to be winning on this trip but everyone gave it their best.
We anchored at a nice calm anchorage for the night and enjoyed a beautiful sunset and excellent dinner served by the Peace crew. They do dinner right and it amazes me none of the other boats do something as nice. Sit down, they serve you, you leave after finishing your dinner and they tell you to leave all the dishes in place but then they are some of the best around.
Sunday we woke up to a beautiful sunrise with the diving day starting at around 7:00 am. Four more dives around Santa Cruz and then back to the dock by 5:15 pm. Topside conditions were excellent with calm seas, some sun and just the right topside temperature. Depending on the dive sites the water temp was mid 50’s to low 60’s and vis was 30′-50′. Seemed like everyone had FUN and I know I did. Thank you to the SOCDC! CIDA is looking forward to more trips with SOCDC gang.
